TEAM leaders or captains
You don't have to be a "Captain" to be a "Leader"... Here are some possible characteristics/traits for these individuals:
RESPONSIBLE
- Arrive 15 minutes early to help coach set up before game/practices
- Check in after practices and games with coach and teammates to assure everyone is ok physically and emotionally ready for next practice/game
- Able to direct teammates how to get to game/practice locations (via public transportation, car, walking, etc.)
- Organize pre-game stretching and warm-ups, getting your teammates in the right mindset to compete
ROLE MODEL
- Enforce positive thinking
- Ensure a harmonious working relationship with the entire team
- Attitude and actions set the tone for the rest of the team
- Consistently show up for your teammates physically and emotionally
- If you slack off fool around during practices, you're giving permission for your teammates to do the same
- If you single out a teammate and pick on them, the rest of the team is going to gang up on that player
- If you lose a game, you shake the opposing team's hands and walk out with your head held high.
- If you win a game, don't mock or rub it in the other teams' faces.
UNSELFISH
- Recognizes its a team effort and assure it is NOT all about ONE PLAYER
- Utilizes strengths of teammates and provide positive and corrective feedback for teammates' struggles
