Strategy (Discern) in Badminton
- Utilize a variety of shots to move your opponents all over the court:
Clear the birdie and hit it close to the end line when opponent is close to the net
Drop Shot when your opponent is standing far from the net and hit it close to the net
Smash the birdie to your opponent and hit it at their feet for an immediate score
Skills (Be Precise) depends on your position
Precisely uses P.E. vocabulary and rules (Be Precise)
- States the serve ("my serve serving your score") consistently and standing on the correct side of the court.
Your score is odd = serve standing on left
Your score is even = server standing on right
Teamwork (Collaborate)
- Works consistently well with any teammates in her group
- Calls for birdie when it comes between the two players with consistent communication: "I got it", "You!", "Me", "Help", etc.
Participation (Plan)
- Player does need any reminders to stay active during class
- Player doesn't have to be reminded to get on the court after a rotation with their group
- While sitting out, players sits behind their group and knows which court they start (if team wins they move towards court 1, if they're group loses, the team moves towards the last court.
COACH
- responsible for providing constructive and positive feedback to players
- If you are unable to provide specific constructive feedback, please ask teacher
- assure that there are always two players on the court at all times & partners are switching in the match
TRAINER
-responsible for warming up the group on your court as soon as you enter the gym
2 sets of each major body part 10-15 repetitions of the following:
Dynamic Stretching (high knees, butt kicks, frankensteins, side step, kareoka, back pedal, etc.)
Legs (Squats, Lunges, Step ups)
Upper Body (Push Ups, Push up to planks, Inclined push ups (hands on a bench), Burpees, negative push ups, "high five" push ups w/ a partner, inchworms,etc.)
Core (Planks, curl ups, sit ups, reverse curls, leg lifts, side planks)
PLAYERS (all students in group)
- demonstrate a proficient understanding of rules & vocabulary (Be Precise)
- responsible for keeping partner and all other individuals safe by avoiding swinging the racket off the court
- players not on the court are responsible for knowing where their group plays after the match
- display good sportsmanship (no arguing over the score or if the birdie lands in/out of bounds)
- as a server, say the score aloud so all players on the court can hear (and agree with) you
